"See it now": Images from Istanbul. Text by K.K.W, photos by Ece Ali.
This month, as part of our 2nd look at Macedonia, in this time of year that marks their 22nd year of independence as a republic (Sept 8th 1991-2012), we are looking at the photography of Ece Ali. Her work is extraordinary in the look, feeling, style, and its power in displaying the beauty captured in a moment (the sign of not just a photographer, but an artist).
She is one of her countries best, representing a unique aspect of its cultural mixture - Rumeli Turkish descent (the Ottoman's ruled over much of the Balkans from the 15th-19th century, leaving their mark via great cuisine, art, architecture, religion, language, etc.).

When I started this series, some months back, it was with an essay by Tanja St about her city Skopje, capital of Macedonia. The title of the series I took from a T.V series hosted by Edward R Murrow (which I learned about from the film "Good Night & Good Luck"). The basic point is to showcase great visuals about different parts of NYC and elsewhere in the world, thereby giving you a real sense of the place in question. Cheers!
